While only achieving a 9 out of twelve score in the study of the following areas:

  • Disk Encryption
  • Authentication
  • Secure Boot
  • Platform Integrity and Sandboxing
  • Application Whitelisting
  • Malicious Code Detection and Prevention
  • Security Policy Enforcement
  • External Interface Protection
  • Device Update Policy
  • Event Collection for Enterprise Analysis
  • Incident Response

Linux still beat Windows 7 of 12 and Mac OSX’s 8 of 12.  A full synopsis can be found here from TechRepublic.  Remember though no OS scored a perfect score and 9 out of 12 is still only a C.  So there is plenty of room for everyone to improve.

Microsoft’s Azure now supports Linux…Sort of..

Microsoft has announced that it wil now support Linux.  Well if you are running a few distros they will.  Those would be:

Suse Linux Enterprise Server 11 SP2

OpenSuse 12.01

CentOS 6.2

Ubuntu 12.04

If you didn’t notice there is one very large distorbution missing from that list.  Red Hat and Fedora are not there but CentOS is.  CentOS is a dirivitive work off of Red Hat.  So it’s not likely a driver issue.  It’s more likely that it’s a licensing and support contract thing.  We have another story about a contract they just signed so we know it’s also unlikely that they aren’t happy about working with each other.  Check out the podcast to hear us go into more detail about our thoughts on the whole situation.

Ubuntu wants to revolutionize the UI

It would seem that Ubuntu is in a race with Microsoft and Apple to make a massive change to the way we use desktop.  With the HUD and Unity they are trying to moving things in a new way and change the way we all work.  While I am still on the fence on Unity the HUD is something I hope Apple and Microsoft embrace and extend.  This is a nice article from the man himself, Mark Shuttleworth, about his plans for the future of User Interfaces.
