We’ve talked on the show before about using Linux as a desktop operating system. Many users think that they have to use Windows to get the best user experience, but with the release of the latest version of Ubuntu, that thinking may be short lived. The new version of Ubuntu, version 10.04, has made both installation and use of the Linux operating system much easier then previous releases. While ease of installation and use are both very important features, what about true, real world functionality? While both desktop and notebook computers right now are at their fastest speeds ever, the OS you run can affect performance as well.
I found an article on phoronix.com that actually shows some real world comparisons between Ubuntu 10.04 and Windows 7.
Check out the article and you may be surprised to see that Linux can keep up with Windows in real world tests.
