Over the last 10 years I have heard repeatedly that this is the year that Linux will start to or actually take over the desktop. I ran across this post on idreamoflinux.com where the author tuxxie discusses several point I have to agree with about why it won’t happen like that. Remember that even Windows didn’t just appear on everyones desk one morning. Apple was the clear winner in the race with the Apple IIe at the begining. Slowly thought and with a lot of help from IBM being in every busines people switched over to Microsoft DOS systems. Adoption of those systems though still took almost a decade. Just look at the migration just between Windows versions like XP to Vista. So to think that Linux could unseat either of the other Major OSes this year is pretty unlinkely. Ubuntu and others have brought the Linux Desktop a long ways but there is still plenty of room for improvement.
