Is Cisco ready to support Linux?

In this article the author starts off trying to make Cisco seem like a villian.  In reality Cisco has just decided not to pay Red Hat for the right to be Certified as a Linux Cloud Service Provider.  Cisco already supports Linux on several of it's platforms.  From the the Linksys WRT product line to it's most complex VOIP Solutions a large number of the product line is running or can run Linux.

SysAdmin's should all read this article in Linux Magazine...

All sysadmins should read this article.  Yes even those of us doing it for a while.  We actually may get more out of his reminders than our younger counter parts.  This is a well written piece that will remind you how to be better Sysadmin.

Is this year the year Linux takes over the desktop?

Over the last 10 years I have heard repeatedly that this is the year that Linux will start to or actually take over the desktop.  I ran across this post on idreamoflinux.com where the author tuxxie discusses several point I have to agree with about why it won't happen like that.  Remember that even Windows didn't just appear on everyones desk one morning.  Apple was the clear winner in the race with the Apple IIe at the begining.  Slowly thought and with a lot of help from IBM being in every busines people switched over to Microsoft DOS systems.  Adoption of those systems though still took almost a decade.  Just look at the migration just between Windows versions like XP to Vista.  So to think that Linux could unseat either of the other Major OSes this year is pretty unlinkely.  Ubuntu and others have brought the Linux Desktop a long ways but there is still plenty of room for improvement.

To do a switch to Linux on the Desktop or Not...

I came across this article about yet another desktop plan and distro that will make Linux look and feel like Windows. The author missed the fact that it could also look like Mac OSX did make it more intriguing. The interesting part of this Ubuntu Variant is it's focus and where it's coming out of.  It's focus is on Netbooks.  Israel is just not where I think of Distro's coming from.  The team at Affordy seem to be doing a great job and I look forward to reviewing their release in the near future.  The distro is called Titan lev and available here.
