Is Linux Fragmented?

With all the new distros that come out and anyone being able to fork a distro or open source project, has Linux become fragmented?  An article I found over on datamation.com looks at how Linux may currently be going through some growing pains.  Check out the article and let us know if you think if any of the new changes being made in today's top distros is causing fragmentation?
